CoMa

CoMa Art Books is a micro-publishing imprint dedicated to producing limited-edition art books in collaboration with artists. Special attention is given to paper, colour, printing and binding. These are not comprehensive publications but focused projects centred on a single theme or narrative. Each is conceived as an artistic project in its own right, offering a close look at a particular aspect of the artist’s work. CoMa is Cornelia Blatter & Marcel Hermans, and is a design studio and publisher based in Amsterdam and New York.

Leslie Roberts: I will console you with language

Leslie Roberts transforms language into paint, capturing the flood of overlooked information around us. She records unnoticed words from sources like street signs, text messages, and emails, mapping them into forms that become illuminated lexicons of 21st-century life.

Judith Bernstein: Active Figuration

Judith Bernstein’s Active Figuration series (2000) consists of ink-on-paper drawings created through a trance-like process, exploring the subconscious. The gestural images address the political injustices of their time, depicting figures in existential angst and turbulent relationships. “It’s fun, but it’s dead serious”.

Cornelia Blatter: 10 letters from Furka Pass

Memories of the Furka Pass and its winding mountain road date back to Cornelia Blatter’s childhood summers, when her family would drive over the pass on their way to Alpine vacations. In 1997, she returned for a ten-day stay at Furkablick as part of Furk’Art, where she wrote letters to lost loved ones—some deceased, others who had drifted away—and released them on balloons. Their destination remains unknown. Only the photos endure.
